Archive for August, 2008

We’re really looking forward to the long weekend! We don’t have any special plans, other than hopefully feeling a little more rested by the time it’s over! We do have church in Kansas City tomorrow and it’s at a different place that we’ve never been before, so finding that might be kind of exciting! LOL

What does everyone else have planned for the holiday weekend? Whatever you have planned, I hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day weekend!

Cost Captain

Have you heard of Cost Captain? It’s an awesome program that provides brand new Office 2007 Suite and Vista to educational institutions for steeply discounted prices! For instance, you can get Microsoft Office 2007 for as little as $99 or a Vista Upgrade for as little as $89! Schools qualify to buy from here of course, but so do libraries, research labs and even home schools (I hope my mom knows about this if they need either of these programs)! All you have to do is provide proof that you’re academically eligible and they’ll ship your purchase to you! I feel this is something that can really benefit a lot of students if more people know about this!

I finally found a good baby doll for Ava (i.e. one that doesn’t poop and pee or “need” to be fed). It does cry and it stops when she puts its pacifier in its mouth, but I can live with that! She’s so cute with it! At first, she got upset when it cried, but now she either puts its pacifier in its mouth or tries to feed it its bottle. And she has it in her head that we shouldn’t put it down. If she gets sick of holding it, she hands it to me so I can hold it and she gets upset if I put it down!

A few weeks ago, I also bought her a set that has a car seat, stroller, swing, bouncer seat, etc. but I think I’m going to save that to give her after the baby comes. That way, even if she’s sick of the doll by then, it will hopefully get her interested in it again. I already gave her the diaper bag out of the set, though, because she kept trying to carry the baby and both bottles around and she couldn’t. So now she just puts the bottles in the diaper bag and carries it on her shoulder. :)

Personal Loans

I’m pretty sure that almost everyone would agree with me when I say that most people would rather not take out loans if they can avoid it. But sometimes, especially during times like this when the cost of everything is going up and our paychecks aren’t, you need a little extra money just to get you back on track. That’s where a Personal Loan from Personal Loans Leader can come in and help you! They offer personal loans with bad credit (and good credit too, of course) with a quick application time so you can get the money you need and get on with your life!

Does anyone have any good books to recommend? I’m looking for a couple good ones to get me through the hospital stay and middle-of-the-night feedings in a few weeks. I’ve already ordered a couple from the library, but I’m not sure if I’m going to like them or not, plus I’ve already read one of them and I’m just not as big on re-reading books as I used to be. So if anyone has read a really good book lately, I’d love to hear about it!

Chicago Directory

I have several friends who live in Chicago and quite a few family members that live within driving distance. So DexKnows.com is the perfect place for them to turn to find whatever business they might be looking for! It’s easy! All you have to do is type in the type of business, the actual business name, a key word and even the phone number and you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for within seconds! I searched for Chicago Movers and had 250 results immediately! Plus, they also have the Chicago Phone Book within their site! Everything you need for getting around in Chicago is at your fingertips when you use this site!

I’m going to have to buy a child-size broom. Every time I get out the broom to sweep, Ava always wants to help. So I give her the broom and she ends up hitting herself and me in the head, knocking stuff off walls and counters, etc. It’s so cute that she wants to help, but I feel bad that she can’t really use the broom very well. Anyone know where to find a child-size broom? I’m not sure if I’d be able to find one at Wal-Mart or somewhere like that…

Customer Support

Customer service is incredibly important to a business. A business that isn’t able to provide adequate customer service is sure to lose both existing customers and potential referrals. To make sure you’re providing the best customer service possible, you need NTRsupport’s remote computer software. With this software, you can provide high quality support to both your customers and your employees, no matter where they are! Go to their site and take a look around! And after that, if you’re still not completely sold on the idea, you can sign up for their FREE 15 day trial! Your customers will thank you!!

This morning we’re getting ready for our weekly trip to the library. Even though Baby Bookworms has been taking a break for the month of August, we’ve still continued to visit the library every Thursday. That way we make sure to get there at least once a week to get some new books (a MUST, since Ava likes reading so much!), it gives us something predictable to do, and now we’re still in the routine and it won’t be hard to get out of the house next Thursday when Baby Bookworms starts up again!

Bills IQ

Do you know where you stand financially? Find out by taking the Bills IQ Quiz! I just finished taking it and I scored an 89%, so I got a B, I guess. I think I would have gotten a higher score if we already had solid plans in place for saving for retirement and our children’s education, but I was still pretty satisfied with my score.

The quiz definitely gets you thinking about ways that you can become more financially secure. Even if you feel fairly confident about your financial status, there are always a few more things you could do to become even more secure. For us, I think those things would be setting up a retirement plan (although we do have some money in a Roth IRA for retirement already) and a plan for saving for Ava and Kelvin’s college education (there’s a program that I’ve been meaning to look into for quite awhile now…I should probably get on that!).

This site also has valuable information on Bankruptcy. They can help you if you decide to file for bankruptcy, but since it’s so damaging to your credit, they also offer some other alternatives for you to explore first.
