Archive for February, 2009

I took the kids in to get their pictures done at Sears yesterday. It didn’t go so hot. Kelvin was great…he smiled for every picture and we got some really good ones of him. Ava, not so much. She’s well into her 2-year-old attitude and refused to sit where we wanted her and kept moving around and not smiling. I told the photographer not to worry too much about getting good ones of her because I’ll be bringing her back next month for her 2-year pictures. All I wanted yesterday was to get a few good ones of the two of them and some good ones of Kelvin for his 4-month pictures (even though he’s closer to 5 months). But she didn’t listen at all.

I ended up getting one good of the two of them, two good ones of Ava and quite a few good ones of Kelvin. Unfortunately, I can’t show them to you yet because Sears is taking FOREVER putting them online. Even though it says to allow 48 hours, it’s never taken longer than one before! Actually, as soon as I’m done with this post, I’m going to call them and see what’s up. But the pictures will be up here just as soon as I can get to them online!

Too bad I couldn’t just have them on memory cards so I could show them to you right away! But that would just be too easy, wouldn’t it?

Fireproof

We finally watched Fireproof last night! I thought it was pretty good…and Chad even liked it, too. There was just enough comic relief in it to keep his interest. :) You wouldn’t expect it from a movie like this, but there was actually one part where I laughed so hard my sides hurt!

I think Chad’s actually excited about starting the Love Dare tonight! He said that while he was working today, he called his parents and all of his married brothers and sister and talked to them about it. It was kinda cute. :)

Love Dare – Week of 2/23

I know I’m a day late getting this up, but I’m having one of those weeks.

So has anyone else started yet? What do you think so far?

I’m very embarrassed to admit we haven’t started ours yet. We were supposed to watch Fireproof when we were in Springfield this weekend, but after taking the kids swimming, we were just too tired. So tonight is our next free night (because we all know last night was out, with Bachelor being on and all LOL). Hopefully we’ll be able to start the book tomorrow then!

I started a Love Dare category on my sidebar (thanks for the suggestion, Laurie!), so you’ll always be able to easily find the Love Dare post for the week.

What Is Up With Jeans??

After the untimely and embarrassing demise of my last favorite pair of jeans, I finally went out to replace them this week. I absolutely loathe jeans-shopping because I’m so picky! But I finally could not put it off any longer.

I did manage to find two pairs that fit me right, but I have to ask….What is up with jeans these days? You take them off the rack and they already look like they’ve been worn for 6 months! They’re worn around the pockets and at the bottom and I just don’t get it!! I can do that to them myself by wearing them for awhile…why do people WANT to buy jeans that don’t even look new?

I ended up buying “worn out” jeans because that’s all I could find that fit me right, but that’s as low as I’m willing to go. I will never, ever buy those jeans that already have holes in them!

I didn’t want to leave all of you hanging (LOL) while we’re in Springfield, so I’m getting a quick post up before we get the car packed up.

I took Kelvin in to the breastfeeding clinic this morning and the nurses there couldn’t see any yeast in his mouth. I kind of feel like that’s good news and bad news. It’s good news, of course, because we don’t have to deal with yeast again. But it’s bad news because I still don’t know what’s wrong with him. Maybe it’s just teething and he’ll feel better as soon as those teeth pop through.

I’ve got to keep moving now…lots to do before we leave!!

We are pretty much ready for our trip to Springfield for the Aire Master regional conference tomorrow. We even had a playdate today that lasted from about 9 am to 3 pm and I still managed to get all the packing done and clean the upstairs bathroom (I could NOT go away with it looking like that!). I got most of it done after the kids went to bed, though.

I planned to spend tomorrow morning giving the kids baths (so I wouldn’t have to bring bath stuff for at the hotel) and getting last minute things ready. But it seems I may have a wrench thrown into that plan. Kelvin has been so fussy at night lately. He acts like he’s hungry, but then he doesn’t nurse, so I assume he’s not hungry. So he’ll cry for like half an hour at a time, which leaves me at my wits’ end.

The whole time this has been going on, I’ve felt like I recognize what’s going on, but I just can’t put my finger on exactly what it is. And you know what? I think I was right! Tonight, Chad found white spots in his mouth, which are a huge red flag for yeast. I dealt with yeast with Ava for months, so I have no idea why I didn’t realize what it is sooner! Now it all makes sense!

And the change of plans comes because I’m going to have to take him in to the breastfeeding clinic in the morning to try to get something to take care of this for him. That’s really important, but I hope that I’ll still have enough time to finish everything else up when we get home!

Awhile back, I mentioned organizing my refrigerator with bins and a had a couple people ask exactly what I meant. If you want to see what I did, you can go check it out here.

Yes, it’s at a new blog. I decided to start just one more blog and I called it Happy Homemaker. It’s kind of an experiment…it’s with a new company on their server and if everything goes according to plan, I’ll get paid just to write posts about whatever I want to write about! I don’t have to write ads about things I don’t care about or anything!

If you go over to check it out, keep in mind that it’s a work in progress right now. I haven’t had time to change the headers and get my blogroll set up yet. Hopefully next week!

By the way, I’ve had a couple people ask how I ever have time for all my blogs…the answer is that this is what I do in my spare time. I very rarely, if ever, blog while the kids are awake (I’ve even learned to schedule posts so I can write a post the night before or even days before and have it publish itself while I’m at playgroup!). But if they’re asleep and I’m not cooking or cleaning, you can usually find me working on my blogs! It’s just what I enjoy doing, so I spend a lot of my spare time on it.

Our Hutch

We finally got our china hutch a week or so ago! We’re so excited because we’ve been looking at this hutch for a few years now and we finally have it! Ava and Chad have lots of fun playing in the bottom of it. They take turns hiding in that cupboard. It’s empty right now because down the road we’re going to use it for storing school books. We figure we’ll probably end up doing the kids’ home schooling in the dining room and instead of buying another bookshelf, we’ll just use that cupboard!

The only problem we’re having with the hutch so far is that Ava likes the slamming the doors of it really hard and I’m pretty sure we’re going to have pinched fingers soon. Sigh. Maybe then we’ll have to hire a Seattle injury lawyer…except we don’t live in Seattle…and it would be her own fault. LOL

This weekend we have an Aire-Master regional conference in Springfield, MO. Chad gave me the option of not going and just staying home with the kids because he knew how much work it would be for me to get everything ready and then take care of the kids while we were there. I hemmed and hawed about it all day today, but I think I’m going to go after all.

It would be a lot easier to stay home, but I’ve been looking forward to being out of the house for this and also, I’m incredibly freaked out by being home alone at night. Seriously, you have no idea how freaked out I would be. I would probably end up calling toll free numbers all night just to have someone to talk to. Just kidding, but I probably wouldn’t sleep at all until I got so exhausted that I couldn’t stay awake anymore. It’s pretty sad, really.

Anyway, so now I have to spend the rest of the week getting ready for this. Actually, it’s going to be a piece of cake packing for this compared to getting ready for Wisconsin trips, which I do every few months. We’re only going to be gone for just over 24 hours, so we really won’t need that much stuff. And the number one reason I considered staying home was because of the drive, but then I remembered that we bought that DVD player for Ava in December, so traveling with her is going to be a breeze!

I am so tired of the run-around we get with Kelvin’s acid reflux medicine. When his doctor first prescribed it, the insurance company required prior authorization, so it took over a week to get his medicine because the insurance company was so slow and didn’t do what they said they would. Luckily, his doctor’s office gave us samples of the medicine to give him in the meantime.

After that, though, it was fairly simple to refill. Well, a couple weeks ago, the doctor raised his dosage because it wasn’t working as well anymore. He still had some medicine at home, so I just started giving him twice as much before I filled that prescription. So on Friday, he was starting to run low, so I called Walgreens and asked if his prescription was ready. They said yes. I didn’t have time to pick it up until Monday, but when I got there, they wouldn’t give it to me because his insurance would only cover the medicine once in a 30-day period. I was pretty ticked about that, but I had exactly enough to get him through today, which is when they would cover it again.

So today after playgroup I went to Walgreens to pick it up and they said it would be a 20-minute wait. I asked why because I had called a few days ago and they’d said it was ready. The lady got all huffy and said that they have to make the prescription right before I pick it up, which I know for a fact is NOT true. They’re little pills that come in a blister-packaging. There’s nothing to “make”! But whatever. So I specifically asked if it would be ready for me to pick up in about 30 minutes and she said yes.

I asked Chad to pick it up on his way home for lunch and he said he would. They made him wait HALF AN HOUR (when it had already been 45 minutes since I’d been there) because they said they needed prior authorization again and he said they shouldn’t because it was the same medicine, but a different dosage. So after half an hour, they said they would call him when they figured out what was going on.

They never called, so at about 4 I called them because Kelvin doesn’t have any medicine for tomorrow and I needed this resolved. They said they needed the prior authorization because it was a different dosage. They couldn’t have just said that in the beginning??? So I had to call his doctor’s office and ask them to go through that week-long hassle again and ask if they had any samples I could give him in the meantime. They gave me a 30-day-supply! After I’m able to fill his prescription, I’m going to save whatever’s left of the sample for situations such as this down the road!!!

Congratulations if you actually made it to the end of this post! I just needed to get all this out. I am so, so tired of the hassle we get with this medicine. Sigh.

P.S. I was supposed to say something about horse supplements somewhere in that post, but really, where would I have put that?
