Archive for August, 2010

Thought I’d give everyone a quick update on the kids before I take a little posting break while we have family here.

Yesterday their rashes were beginning to disappear and they seemed to much happier little people! Sleeping better, better moods, etc. They were still really tired though, so we kept them home from church. Kelvin actually told me during breakfast, “Tired. Bed.” Poor little man! How could I take him out and make him skip his nap after that?!

And today the rashes are nearly gone. I can see little traces here and there, but I think we’re pretty much done! Yay! Now I’ll gladly take my Bioance massage table as reward for going through this last week!

I’m so excited that Daniel, Jessica and Madison are coming to see us this week! They’re leaving tonight and will get here at about 2 am. They were originally going to leave later so that they would get here at about 7 am, but I don’t think anyone wanted them driving all the way through the night like that. Especially since Jessica had surgery on her foot, so Daniel is the only one that can drive. Hopefully this way, it will be an easier trip on them and they won’t need to make any calls to the roadside assistance club!

So since we’ll be busy spending time with them this week, the posting here will probably be a little thin. I’ll be back full-force with pictures next week though!

Now that summer’s practically over, I think it’s about time I got serious about losing these last 10 pounds of baby weight, don’t you? LOL

I ordered a new workout video this week…..Jillian Michaels: No More Trouble Zones. I’m really excited to give it a try. If I’m going to do a workout video, I want to be challenged, which is why I love Jillian Michaels’ DVD’s. I already have the 30-Day Shred and love it, but unfortunately my joints do not. I’m really hoping this one is kinder to my joints and I can stick with it!

Our MOMS Club is also starting a Walk-n-Talk group 1-2 times a week. We’ll vary which parks we walk at while it’s still warm and then we’ll start walking in the mall when it gets cold. I’m looking forward to it…I think I’ll stick with walking much better if I have people to do it with!

Those of you who follow me on Facebook know that this has been a really rough week for me. The kids got sick last weekend with high fevers and then developed a weird rash, which I later determined was roseola.

Everything I’ve read said that the rash should only hang around for 1-2 days, and this is the second day and it’s still going strong! Last night was absolutely horrible…

I got maybe two hours of sleep total, but it was broken up into 15 minute increments. Kelvin was so itchy and it kept waking him up. I didn’t have anything to put on it and the Walgreens that is half a block from us isn’t a 24-hour one. Believe me, if it was, I would have done whatever it took to get there….walked in the rain with women’s rain boots if I had to! It was bad. I did try putting Vick’s Vaporub on it (a remedy I read about online), but it didn’t seem to do much good.

So I ended up laying on his floor for several hour-long sessions. And then as soon as I would get up and go back to my bed, he would wake up within the next 15 minutes. And then I started running a fever. I had chills and my teeth were chattering and I felt horrible. Luckily ibuprofen fixed that quick!

I got to Walgreens this morning and bought Caladryl and a Benedryl topical spray, so hopefully we’ll have a better night tonight. We’d better….this mama is wiped out!

For those of you that read my Facebook and my other blog, have you noticed that I’m ridiculously excited about going to Daytona Beach next month? Because I am!

It’s weird that we still have over a month before we leave, but I’m already mentally planning out pre-trip shopping lists, packing lists and to do lists! Probably because it’s our next scheduled trip….otherwise I probably wouldn’t be going so overboard already!

One thing I’m not able to plan very well for is our day-trip to Disney World. I’ve never been there, but I’m totally psyched to finally be going! Forget ugg boots, leather jackets and other nice gifts Chad has gotten me for previous Feasts…..going to Disney World is going to be the best ever!

OK, I feel better now. Just had to get that excitement out. Can you imagine the overly excited posts you’ll be reading in a few weeks as it gets closer?!

This morning, the kids and I hit the stores hard! School starts here next week, so we need to finish stocking up on school supplies for the year. Like I mentioned before, we stock up on everything school-supply-related in August so we don’t have to pay full-price during the rest of the year (too bad there aren’t discounts like this on NC health insurance!).

We ended up with:
8 boxes of crayons
8 boxes of markers
4 boxes of colored pencils
8 bottles of liquid Elmer’s glue
16 Elmer’s glue sticks
10 notebooks
12 2-pocket folders
2 1″ binders
3 boxes of pens
2 packages of pencils
1 pack of filler paper
5 rulers
7 hard pencil boxes

Whew! I think that’s it, but I’m too scared of waking the kids up to go check and make sure. All told, I think I spent about $30 on all of that. Not too bad, considering I don’t even know if we’ll use all of that within a year. Something tells me we’ll still have a lot leftover.

I still have a few things I want to get that I haven’t seen great sales on yet, so I’m crossing my fingers for next week!

I can’t believe summer is starting to wind down already! Of course, the heat isn’t winding down quite yet…we’ve had heat indexes over 110 for quite awhile and we have an “excessive heat warning” through the weekend. But all the summer activities are pretty much over.

Ava did awesome in swimming lessons this year. She was a bit shy during the first session and ended up not passing, but she passed the next session with flying colors. She’s a little fish in the water now! She even holds onto the side, puts her face in the water and kicks her feet! I’m so proud of her….no congratulatory cigars though please! LOL

All the school kids are getting ready to go back to school a week from tomorrow. Isn’t that insane? So we’re busy stocking up on great school supply deals! I’ve been buying a year’s worth of crayons, markers, glue, paper, notebooks….pretty much anything we’ll use! The prices this time a year are just too awesome to pass up!

I’ve been doing a lot of freezer cooking this week so I can spend the rest of the month enjoying the end of summer with the kids! There are still a lot of things we haven’t had the chance to do, so we need to get on it! I also need extra time to begin getting their preschool curriculum ready for fall and start getting ready for our trip to Daytona Beach next month. SO excited!
