I’m embarrassed to admit it, but we fell off the bandwagon a little this week. Wait, is that just something you say when you go back to an addiction? I don’t know…the point is that we’re not quite as motivated with the Love Dare as we have been in previous weeks.

I’ve been super tired, so some nights we just read the dare and not the entire chapter. I know that’s bad, huh? In my own defense, I fully intend to go back and read those chapters later. I really will.

Also, tonight our dare was that we were supposed to have a special dinner for just the two of us. That so didn’t happen. First of all, we were grocery shopping all afternoon, so dinner came straight out of the freezer. Second, the only way we would ever be able to have a dinner for just the two of us is if we ate at 10 PM! And I cannot wait that long to eat. But we did make more of an attempt to talk to each other while we ate dinner instead of just trying to get the kids to eat their dinners. Hopefully that still counts.

But this week I definitely want to get back on track with the book. In fact, maybe I should go get the book and read the chapter out loud to Chad before I get too tired….after he’s done talking to Jason and Mike on his video game, though….

P.S. If you’re interested, there’s a tiny update on life at our house here.

We just finished Day 11 and will be reading Day 12 tonight. I’ll admit there have been a couple of days where I just want to say, “This was a dumb idea I had. I don’t want to do this anymore.” Not really because of anything the book wanted us to do, but because of how overwhelmed I feel reading about things that I should be doing better. But we’re still plugging along day by day.

Sometimes I think the author ran out of ideas for some of the days because it seems like the “Do something nice for your spouse today” theme runs through a lot of the chapters. Just an observation…it’s not a bad thing or anything. I just couldn’t think of anything else to say and I didn’t think the post was long enough yet.

We’d love to hear what all of you think of the book so far!

We’ve finally started! We watched Fireproof last Wednesday and we both really enjoyed it. We started the Love Dare the next day, so we’re on Day 5 today.

I’m not sure if the book was really intended to do together. For one of the dares, we had to buy something for each other to say that we were thinking about the other person. But since we both know that we’re doing the book, we were expecting it and just didn’t get the effect that I think we would have gotten if only one of us was doing it.

It was kind of funny yesterday. We had to call each other to ask if the other person needed anything. Well, Chad ended up staying home from work to get his van fixed, so while I was driving him back from dropping it off, he got out his phone and I assumed he was calling someone in his family. Then my phone rang and it was him, asking if I needed anything. The big goof. At least he did the dare!

Overall, we’re both enjoying the book a lot. It makes us ensure that we have time together every night to read the chapter for the next day and we end up talking about our feelings and thoughts a lot more. It also gives us ideas of things we should be doing even after we’re done with the book.

What about everyone else? What day are you on? Are you enjoying it so far?

I think Chad’s actually excited about starting the Love Dare tonight! He said that while he was working today, he called his parents and all of his married brothers and sister and talked to them about it. It was kinda cute.

I’m very embarrassed to admit we haven’t started ours yet. We were supposed to watch Fireproof when we were in Springfield this weekend, but after taking the kids swimming, we were just too tired. So tonight is our next free night (because we all know last night was out, with Bachelor being on and all LOL). Hopefully we’ll be able to start the book tomorrow then!

I started a Love Dare category on my sidebar (thanks for the suggestion, Laurie!), so you’ll always be able to easily find the Love Dare post for the week.

I just got my Love Dare book today (5-9 day shipping, my foot!), so I haven’t really had a chance to look through it much yet. I know the plan was to start on February 16, so some of you may have already started. Since it’s a book about marriage, which is pretty personal, I don’t want us to have to try to all be on the same chapter at exactly the same time and be worried if we fall behind. I think everyone is going to want to just take it at their own pace. My main goal in this is just to have people to talk to along the way who will actually know what we’re talking about!

So I think the plan at this point is that I’ll put up one post a week (or every few days or whatever you guys think would be good) about highlights from the week and anything else I want to share and then everyone else can share whatever they want to share (if anything) in the comments. I might try to make the weekly post a “sticky” post (so that it stays at the top of my blog all week so people can find it easily), but I’ll have to figure out how first. Since I’ve never done this before (I’ve just read other peoples’ blogs who are doing it and they write a post every day about what they’re learning, etc.), I’m not 100% certain what to expect, so we might have to change some things along the way. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

I’m going to try to get Chad to watch Fireproof with me tonight and hopefully start on the book tomorrow. When are all of you planning to start?

OK, let’s do it! We’ve got some interest in it and I’m hoping to get more in the next week or so. We’ll see, though. Even if it’s just a small group, it will still be nice to have other people who know what we’re talking about if we have stories or experiences we want to share.

I ordered my Fireproof and The Love Dare last night. I didn’t pay for shipping, so they will be here in 5-9 days. Does everyone who wants to participate think they’ll be able to get their book (and movie if they want it) before Monday, February 16? That’s just a tentative date…let me know what you think!

Like I said before, you do not need to have the movie in order to participate in this. I just wanted to make sure I had it because I don’t know how well I’m explaining the point of the book to Chad and I think he’ll have a better idea if he sees the movie first. He’s on board with it, of course, but I just think we’ll both benefit from seeing the movie before we start the book.

OK, to recap: At this point, everyone who wants to participate should just get the book (and movie if they want it) and let me know if they think Feb 16 is a reasonable day to shoot for starting. I’ll probably have a couple more posts about this in the next couple weeks once I get my book and am able to see exactly what’s involved.

I’m thinking of starting something a little bit different on this blog, but I need to see how much interest there is first.

I’ve heard some really great reviews of the movie Fireproof (has anyone else seen it?) and I know that the book The Love Dare is a big part of that movie. I’m thinking about buying them both so that Chad and I can watch the movie and then go through the book together.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying the book (and movie if you want to) and having a weekly discussion about it here. We wouldn’t have to share anything really personal, but I think it would help keep us all on track with it and it would also be neat to be able to talk about it with other people who are in the same part of the book.

So what do you think? Any interest in doing this with us?
